Light it up! In this engaging activity, students learn how to create a simple closed electrical circuit using copper tape, LEDs, and button batteries. The challenge? Design and build a functional light-up greeting card or interactive paper model that uses a switch to control the light. It’s a creative way to explore conductors, insulators, and how electricity flows!
All supplies are included for 24 students working in pairs, with printed directions and clear video walkthroughs to support success.
Time Commitment:
Two 45-minute class periods or one 1.5-hour session
Suggested Grades:
Grades 3–6
TEKS Alignment:
-
3.6(B): Demonstrate that electricity travels in a closed path
-
4.6(D): Differentiate between conductors and insulators
-
5.6(B): Demonstrate that the flow of electricity in circuits requires a complete path
